The Ministry of Strategic Industries was established

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established the Ministry of Strategic Industries.

The decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday, July 22.

"The purpose of the act is to create a central executive body responsible for shaping state industrial policy in strategic areas,"  Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky said during a Cabinet meeting.

"In order for the new minister to be able to fulfill his tasks and goals, he needs to be given the necessary platform and resources. That is to create a new ministry. I have already said that the issue is long overdue. This was our strategy and promise at the very beginning of our Government's work. There must be a new approach to the development of industry through the formation of an effective state policy and strategy,"  Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said during the meeting.

According to the Prime Minister, the priority of the new agency is the high-tech defense industry, which has significant potential in Ukraine.

It should be noted that on July 10, 2020, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal submitted to the parliament a draft resolution on the appointment of Oleg Urusky to the post of Deputy Prime Minister, but on July 13 this document was revoked. On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada supported Resolution №3842 on the appointment of Oleg Urusky as Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Strategic Industries.

Oleg Urusky (born 1963) - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology. Academician of the International Academy of Aeronautics. In 1985 he graduated from the Kyiv Higher Military Aviation Engineering School. In 1993-1996 he worked as the head of the department at the National Space Agency of Ukraine. In 1996-2000 he headed the department in the staff of the National Security and Defense Council. In 2000-2003 he held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Defense and Industry of Ukraine. In 2005-2006, Urusky was the First Deputy Minister of Industrial Policy Volodymyr Shandra.

In 2015, he headed the State Space Agency of Ukraine. In April 2020, Urusky became the director of the engineering company Progrestech-Ukraine, which provides engineering services and software for enterprises in high-tech sectors of the economy. The main partner and customer of Progrestech-Ukraine is Boeing. Progresstechgroup is an international holding company headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA. The holding operates a number of engineering centers in Europe and North America, has 12 offices around the world.
