Fines for an unlocked seat belts may be increased up to 10 times

Ukraine has launched an information campaign "Belt or Autopsy," which calls for Ukrainian use of seat belts in cars. The authors of the advertisement offer shocking comparisons, showing the consequences of a car accident for a person who does not hang on a seat belt and offers a choice: a bruise of a belt whether the trace of a pathologist's knife.

In fact, according to the WHO, in more than half of cases, a strap in a fatal accident could save lives, while 77% of drivers are not hugging in Ukraine.

According to official figures of the National Police of Ukraine, every year on the roads of Ukraine, at least 3.5 thousand people die and at least 35 thousand people are injured. That is, more than 9 people die every day on the roads of Ukraine. According to these indicators of accidents and the consequences of traffic accidents, Ukraine is one of the leaders among European countries.

At the same time, as it was noted by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, the level of use of seat belts in Ukraine is the lowest among all European countries and accounts for only 23% of drivers. For example, in France, 99% of drivers constantly use seat belts, Czech Republic - 97%, Slovenia - 93%, Poland - 83%.

To change the behavior of Ukrainians they want to use such campaigns and increase fines.

In particular, the Verkhovna Rada registered a bill number 10131, which proposes to increase fines 10 times from UAH 51 to UAH 510.

At present, administrative penalties for violation of the rules on the use of seat belts  in Ukraine are 3 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens, namely UAH 51. The size of this fine is too lenient and disproportionately low compared to the grave consequences that may be caused by non-compliance. In addition, the establishment by the state of such a small amount of fine gives drivers and passengers the idea that the violation of these rules is something trivial and insignificant, although the result is numerous human losses.

The combination of these factors contributes to mass ignoring of the use of safety belts and motorcycles, which leads to an increase in the number of deaths and injuries on the roads of Ukraine.

In our turn, we also joining to the "Safe Roads" campaign and encouraging all drivers not to neglect such an elementary safety rule as a dressed helmet or a fastened seat belt.
